In 23 years training i never done my 1max rep ever . I think is very dangerous and less than 5 reps is not the best to grow.
At this time i stay away some basics to keep injuries free. basics is a must in beginning to give a solid mass.

I agree.
this "test" is used to set up a workout based on the percentage of your 1rm (80-85% generally for mass)
but kg more kg less, it can be set even without having to do a single rep and risk bones.

I agree with both of you guys but i like being strong as well as getting bigger and i let my ego get the best of me sometimes
